brother-mouse reblogged your post how-much-farther-to-go asked:Do y… and added:

Jesus fucking christ, It’s a fantasy novel; key word FANTASYy’all need to calm the fuck down. I try to ignore this BS as much as I can but this post is pissing me off. Allow me to clarify; I have yet to…

I still don’t get why is it a term of criticism the fact that I haven’t seen a black men in the serie .. Have anyone of you read a British or Spanish or American or European history book talking about a black king? Nope since the fights were fought in other places not that there weren’t fights going on there but clearly if there was a fight with England it wasn’t important enough to put in the book, so, if you are making a fantasy you’ll imagine you’re in that era where - as the book say- there weren’t black men ( and yes I said black men and MY law doesn’t forbid it cause we don’t have those problems here)

Hey, does anyone remember the time I got sent this ask?

It’s really at the point that the criticism from one angle literally just refutes criticism from the other angle.

This reblogger above also seems to be under the impression that it is illegal to say “Black men” in the United States. And once again, the above responder also has never read a history book that included any “Black men”. Or, apparently Black kings. Sorry to say, but I’m pretty sure you do have “Those problems” there, wherever it is you are.

Apparently it just goes to show that bragging about how ignorant you are about history, and using that as an excuse to try and silence people criticizing a fantasy novel is not merely an American pastime.

By the way….here are some illuminations from the Grandes Chroniques de France of Charlemagne’s war with the Black king, Agolant (c.1330-1350):

And if you can handle it, here is an illumination of a Black woman, from another manuscript of a play (1412):

Not to mention Sancho I of Castile and Leon (Spain, c. 956):

Or this full-page miniature from a manuscript showing the story of the conversion of a Black man to Christianity, in Spain, in the 1280s

Or there’s always

You know, as I’ve said before, I don’t have a problem with questions, or people just not knowing about all this stuff. But when you’re using your own ignorance to try to mock and silence other people who are legitimately criticizing FANTASY media?

Maybe try and have the grace to be embarrassed for once.

ACDWatson standing over BBCJohn, hand curled on his chin, with a dark expression on his face. In his free hand, his rough belt dangles from his fist. He leans in, hot breath and moustache scraping over John’s ear. “You need to be taught how to treat your Holmes.” he whispers, voice satin smooth and John knows he’ll be sore by the time he’s learned his lessons.
